The manager is an abstraction layer that allows key decision makers in the company to think of a group of people as a single unit when it comes time for strategy and planning.

To become the best abstraction layer, you will need to communicate extremely well.

Why

To implement this, three things must be achieved:

  1. The core purpose of the team must be clear and well articulated

  2. The core purpose needs to be impactful to the company’s goals.

  3. The dependencies and key outputs to achieve the core purpose are defined and socialized.

With these three things, the key decision makers can use your core purpose as an abstraction during strategy and planning, rather than being forced to dig into the details of the team, which simplifies their job.
